WordPress as a web app platform

WordPress is certainly one of the easiest to use blogging platforms available and it makes quite a decent CMS platform. The paging functionality is a hurdle at times for general CMS work. I would love to hear tips and techniques about how to use WordPress pages for general CMS work.
